          The Cape Reinga Lighthouse is located on Cape Reinga in the Northland region of New Zealand's North Island and is operated by Maritime New Zealand. Although the lighthouse itself cannot be visited, it is a well-known tourist attraction in New Zealand. This octagonal lighthouse with a concrete substructure was built in 1941 and replaced the previous Cape Maria Van Diemen Lighthouse, which had stood on Motuopao Island off Cape Maria van Diemen since 1879. This older lighthouse was difficult to reach, especially in stormy weather, and was therefore abandoned in 1939. In the construction of the new tower on the mainland, parts of the old lighthouse were reused, including the technology in the lantern. The Cape Reinga Lighthouse is powered by a 1000 watt lamp powered by a diesel generator and has a range of 48 kilometers.
