    The city's Roman amphitheater, once a place of games and fights, was renamed Arenas for the bullfighting shows that take place there. A vestige of the ancient Roman colonies, the Arena forms an ellipse of 136 by 106 meters and its capacity of 21,000 people makes it the twentieth largest amphitheater in the world. The town of Arles has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city has one of the largest sets of ancient monuments, including the Arena which has allowed the city to enjoy a worldwide reputation. They are today the emblem of the city and bring a large number of tourists each year. The program of the place is diverse with concerts, shows, ferias...       Les Arènes d'Arles is a particularly beautiful, well-preserved Roman amphitheater. Two of the former three floors are still preserved and today the arena is used next to concerts, especially for "bullfights". You can also visit it for little money.

        The Arles Amphitheatre (French: Arènes d'Arles) is a Roman amphitheatre in the southern French town of Arles, which thrived in Roman times. This two-tiered Roman amphitheatre is probably one of the best preserved. The pronounced towers jutting out from the top are medieval add-ons. The arena is now used again for events like concerts and "bullfights". You can visit inside for a small fee.
        Built in 90 AD, the amphitheatre was capable of seating over 20,000 spectators, and was built to provide entertainment in the form of chariot races and bloody hand-to-hand battles.             The Arles amphitheater, built at the end of the 1st century, was converted into a fortress and later transformed into a small "city within a city". Up to 21,000 spectators could find space in the 136 mx 107 m building. The 69 x 40 m arena was separated from the rows of seats by a wall and covered with a wooden floor, under which the machinery and the cages of the predators were located. Today it is the setting for Spanish corridas, Courses Camarguaises (Provencal bullfighting games) and variety shows.
