Cyclists 🚴 ♂️ 🚴 ♀️ can ride up to the dam, but they cannot cross the dam. The stairs can still be overcome by bike (west side). In 2021, however, an additional barrier was installed just before the dam wall. Bicycles with luggage and e-bikes hardly stand a chance. They probably want to prevent driving on the wall. ☹

This is not a bike highlight! The nature of the path is not suitable for cycling, often pushing is announced. I was met by a mountain biker, who also had to get out of the saddle and said: "Pretty bony".

The Eckertalsperre has existed since 1943. From there, the nearby cities are supplied with drinking water and the dam also holds a large amount of precipitation. You cannot drive directly to the dam and the reservoir by car. That is why the area is also wonderfully suitable for cyclists and hikers.
