The archbishop of Mainz Willigis (975-1011) acquired land near the village of Semendisbach and had a chapel built on it. The Semendiskapelle is next to the "Gehinkirche" in Auen one of the oldest churches in the region. Around 1250, the ship of the Semendiskapelle was rebuilt and the paintings in the choir, which were uncovered during the restoration in 1970, were rebuilt. In the 11th and 12th centuries Seesbach belonged to the monastery Disibodenberg in the diocese Mainz. In a document dated September 1, 1277 Seesbach is listed in a directory as the property of Count Heinrich von Sponheim.
