The Stralsund town hall is probably one of the most important and best known, secular buildings of the North German brick Gothic. His display wall with the seven pointed towers and the six star circles, whose silhouette falls towards the houses opposite (winter) or the pavement of the old market (summer) around noon, is unique. The Rostock town hall also had a Gothic brick display wall. However, this was covered so far by a baroque porch that only the seven towers of the original display wall are visible. The town hall is right next to the Nikolaikirche on the old market. It consists of two parallel, three-storey wings in the north-south direction, which were connected to each other by transverse structures on their narrow sides. The two wings, decorated with pointed arches, were built in the 13th century and form an inner courtyard with a colonnade, over which 1680 baroque galleries were built.
The transverse building on the south side also dates from the 13th century. The northern transverse building with its spacious arbor on the ground floor, a large hall above it and the wonderful brick display wall already mentioned was probably built at the beginning of the 15th century. A baroque portal with a Swedish coat of arms was built on the west side in the 18th century.

"The Wulflamhaus, Alter Markt 6, Stralsund, is the best known among the medieval gabled houses in Stralsund and was demonstrably built before 1358. Noteworthy are the atypical for merchant houses, located above the hall floor, as well as the magnificent arrow gable, as a scaled-down image of the town hall. Once it even had a balcony, reflecting the greed for power and wealth of the powerful Wulflam family, who used to live there for years, and Bertram Wulflam, one of Stralsund's most influential mayors, was considered a self-possessed and domineering contemporary he permanently kept his council colleagues and kept the city treasury in his house, where he decided what the money should be used for or whether it fills his own pockets. His eldest son Wulf Wulflam, spoiled offshoot of the autocratic dynasty behaved arrogant and idiosyncratic in the then Company All ft. An opposition to the abuse of power of the Wulflams formed under the new mayor Sarnow and the family fled with their assets to Lübeck. Under the threat of the exclusion of Stralsund from the Hanseatic League, the reinstatement of Wulflam as councilor was enforced. Sarnow was beheaded and the way to Stralsund was open again for the Wulflams. Bertram Wulflam, however, died in exile in Lübeck. His son Wulftrat in his footsteps, was elected mayor and was known for his legendary wealth. The equipment of the house should have put so many Fürstenhof in the shade. Due to his machinations and affairs vulnerable he was himself a victim of intrigue and murdered on the island of Rügen. His death marked the end of the most powerful dynasty in the Hanseatic League. 1987-1991, the building was expertly reconstructed. Today the Wulflamhaus Stralsund houses a restaurant and is the seat of the city president. The farm building in the yard from the 16th century, the so-called brewery, is now the theater of the Theater Vorpommern (access via the Knieperstraße, Altstadt Stralsund). "The area settled by merchants around 1200 is the starting point for the rapid development of the city of Stralsund in the Middle Ages." The Old Market was first mentioned in 1277 as forum antiquum, which served not only the trade but also the place of jurisdiction The old market is one of the most beautiful markets in the entire Baltic Sea region and is an architectural reflection of the city's eventful history, with many Hanseatic gabled houses on the west side opposite the town hall The building for the provincial bank Pommern am Alten Markt 4, now the house of the trade unions, was built in 1929/30 and was the location of the former city theater in Stralsund for years Hotel Goldener Löwe, seized and occupied by the Red Army after World War II Used again as a hotel, took place in 1982, the demolition and immediately the reconstruction in plate style (1983). Rügen Stralsund Old Town - City Tour Wulflamhaus Old Market - Old Town Hotel Stralsund Mecklenburg Vorpommern OstseeAfter the refurbishment in 2003, flats for students were built there and the restaurant Goldener Löwe reopened its doors for guests. On the north side, to the left of the town hall, is the Commandantenhus and a number of other medieval buildings that are now used as residential and commercial buildings. The east side of the market is undoubtedly the most impressive and mostly photographed view of the city. Here are the impressive facade of the town hall and the huge church of St. Nicolai, which together form one of the most magnificent cityscapes. This unique urban design is a stony expression of the close relationship between the church and the city council, as it is so obvious to the visitor in no other Hanseatic city. The Minervahaus, to the left of the town hall, used to be a police station and is now used as part of the city administration. On the south side, on the right side of the town hall, is the newly built building of the Stralsund Tourist Office, where once stood a historic gable house. Striking is the adjoining resident and now used as a restaurant Artushof, which once served as a venue and guest house of the city. "Http://ruegen-stralsund.de

Great, of course, with the towering town hall with the great Gothic decorative facade.
But baroque elements can also be found on the market square.

"The Commandanten-Hus on the Alter Markt was built between 1748 and 1751 as the seat of the Swedish garrison commander. During the GDR era, the building was used by the People's Navy as the" House of the National People's Army ".
After 1990 there were several attempts to sell and renovate the building. It was only able to be comprehensively renovated in 2002/2003 and, with the particularly eye-catching Swedish-Pomeranian coat of arms in the gable, it is again an impressive structural example from the Swedish time of Stralsund.
Today there is a cozy little café on the ground floor. "

Large market square with great house facades absolutely worth seeing. The church takes 3 euros to enter, I'm a bit torn about that. I've been to the church my whole life and now I have to pay to enter the other way around, so many people aren't in the church and somehow churches like this have to be preserved. But the church itself is absolutely worth seeing.

The beautiful square in the middle of Stralsund's old town can be reached from all directions via star-shaped paths. There are several restaurants and bars that invite you to a cozy get-together. The view of the beautiful facades - or houses and buildings - is remarkable. The walk-in and barrier-free fountain invites everyone to cool off in the summer and fur noses 🐾. A very nice place in Stralsund! 🤠👍

The Old Market is the most beautiful square in the old town of Stralsund.
Not only the magnificent town hall with its false facade, but also many other buildings worth seeing from different eras give the Old Market an interesting look. Among them, the Wulflamhaus with its elaborately designed brick facade is the most striking and well-known. It is proven that it was built before 1358 for the mayor Wulflam.
