Of the Harzburg is rather little preserved, some walls, the fountain and a restored tower. But in combination with the restaurant "Aussichtsreich", the cable car, the Krodo statue, the Canossa monument, the stamp office and the excellent view over Bad Harzburg worth the visit anyway. Just below the Harzburg there is also the treetop path, the root path and a high ropes course.

In pre-Christian times a statue of the Sachsengottes KRODO should have stood here. Emperor "Charlemagne" has this statue destroyed in the course of the violent Christianization.
In 2007, a newly created Krodo statue of the local craftsman Volker Schubert returned on the initiative of the Friends of Hist. Burgberg e.V. back.

On the northern edge of the Harz Mountains, above Bad Harzburg and the Radautal Valley in Lower Saxony, the ruins of the Great Harzburg Castle sit on the Great Castle Hill at an altitude of approximately 485 meters. Those who don't want to climb on foot can take the Castle Hill cable car.

Once built by King Henry IV from 1065 to 1068 at a strategically advantageous location,

today only fragments of the wells, towers, and foundation walls remain of the Great Harzburg Castle. The castle originally served to secure the Imperial Palace in Goslar.

The walls once reached the steep edge of the mountain cone, making the castle virtually impregnable. The extremely fortified castle housed a collegiate church
and a three-room palace, as well as a generally magnificent interior.

The remains of Conrad II and his son Henry are stored in the family crypt.
