The Schutterspark in Brunssum (near Heerlen) is still a real insider tip. Of course, many people now know the Blotevoetenpark (barefoot path), but there is much more to discover. In addition to varied hiking trails, some of which lead over wooden walkways, two playgrounds offer safe and clean fun for children up to the age of 12 for a small fee. One of them is a bit smaller, but it houses a children's farm. A freely accessible nature playground is also located directly south of the lake.
Captain, helmsman or sailor? In the Minihaven Schutterspark, children from the age of 9 can already steer their own boat. A cruise ship, a ferry, a paddle steamer, a firefighting boat, a fishing boat or the coast guard are faithfully reproduced and are ready in the harbor. The pure travel time is “only” 15 minutes, but even at the briefing not only children feel like real captains and sailors. Children up to the age of 9, accompanied by an adult, can sometimes take the wheel in their hands.
If you just want to watch, sit on the terrace and enjoy the view of the lake. Next door, a light sandy beach offers children plenty of space to build castles. Sand toys are available, but swimming is prohibited.
