The Catholic St. Johanneskirche is one of the largest churches in the Vordertaunus and is therefore, as well as because of its two church towers, also referred to as “Taunusdom” in local parlance.
The Taunus Cathedral in its current form, now the fourth church in Kirdorf, was built between 1858 and 1862 on a hillside in the middle of the town and inaugurated on August 31, 1862. It is considered one of the last large sacred buildings in Germany that were built in the late classicist round arch style.
The church furnishings are characterized by Art Nouveau painting

St. John's Church is affectionately known as the "Taunus Cathedral" because it is the largest church in the Vordertaunus region. Situated on a hill in the Kirdorf district, its towers rise over 50 meters high. It was designed by Mainz cathedral master builder Ignaz Opfermann in the late Classical round-arch style and consecrated in 1862. Its characteristic features are its symmetry, the uniform design of the building sections on both sides of the longitudinal axis, and the position of the towers. The listed organ dates from 1861 and was built by Hermann Dreymann, a member of the renowned Mainz organ-building family. In the mid-1960s, it was restored by the Bonn-based Klais company, and a third manual was added.
