The Bockstein Cave registered in the World Heritage List is freely accessible. Finds from it can be dated back to 50,000 to 70,000 years ago, making the Bockstein Cave the oldest Neanderthal settlement complex in southern Germany.

Part of the so-called Bocksteinfundstellen, which consist of several sites and caves. To the right of the cave is the Bocksteinloch, whose forecourt is called Bocksteinschmiede. The Neanderthals probably already lived here. His legacy ranges from a simple hand-ax to various scrapers to the well-known "Bocksteinmesser", a stone tool that has an already improved fist-wedge-like knife shape. The wide, shallow cave complex is freely accessible and is located about 4 km north of Öllingen in a rocky spur, about 12 m above the valley.
