Břeclav Castle was originally a Renaissance chateau, which was later rebuilt in a romantic style. It is under protection as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The castle is currently being renovated and will be restored to its original Renaissance shape.

Originally there was a border castle on the site of the castle, which was built by Prince Břetislav I, after whom the manor was named. The castle served as one of the administrative centers of the principalities in medieval Moravia, later it became one of the manors. The Žerotín family later acquired this Přemysliden castle together with new and old Břeclav, the Žerotíners converted the castle into a Renaissance castle in the 1st half of the 16th century. Ladislav Velen from Žerotín (1579-1638) was deprived of the Břeclav estate due to his participation in the uprising after 1618. The Liechtensteiners acquired the castle in 1638, when they were the owners of the neighboring estates Valtice and Lednice.
