At this point there are still remains of the old border fortifications. After the fall of the Wall, NVA soldiers simply forgot to dismantle the 300-meter-long barriers. So a piece of the border fortification simply remained standing.

At the former GDR border between Trappstadt (Rhoen-Grabfeld district) and Schlechtsart in Thuringia, there are still around 300 meters of border fence.
After reunification, a unit of the National People's Army (NVA) had the task of dismantling the border fence to Gompertshausen in the south of Schlechtsart.
But the border system consisted of more than just a 3.20 meter high metal fence.
Mines were laid in the ground in front of the fence at intervals of 50 by 50 centimetres.
