Idyllically situated, in the immediate vicinity of the Spree, it is the oldest church in the Cottbus district.

The construction of a wooden church was approved as early as 1124. Even the Slavs worshiped the location of the church as the "sacred grove" of their idol Flinz.

The Gothic church building dates from the late 14th century. A rectangular nave and a square tower are made of brick. The west portal is pointed arched. The attached sacristy, however, has field stone masonry.

The tower is subdivided in the lower part and the upper floors are horizontally separated by blind strips. The wooden ceiling inside, which was built in the shape of a coffin lid, creates excellent acoustics.

1975, during the interior renovation, the interior from the beginning of the 19th century was removed. The church has had an organ from the Löbling company in Erfurt since 1988.

The interior of the church was originally a wooden barrel vault. In 1879 the interior was fundamentally redesigned, with a wooden ceiling broken on three sides. The Gothic wall paintings found during construction work were painted over again.
