Salzburg's northernmost glacier and the highest point of the Salzburg Limestone Alps offer a magnificent panoramic view. To the south, three-thousand-meter peaks line the mountain range, to the east rise the Dachstein, and from west to north, the view sweeps across the small glacial plateau of the Hochkönig and the adjacent Steinernes Meer massif.
At the time of our visit, the Matras-Haus wasn't a culinary highlight. Many other mountain huts, also difficult to provide for, offer considerably more – both in terms of food and wine...
However, the location directly at the summit of the nearly three-thousand-meter peak is unique and definitely worth a visit.
