"Wild Pasture" - What is it?

The area's military past has resulted in a steppe-like landscape due to the lack of agricultural use, where a large number of endangered or endangered plant and animal species are concentrated. It is now necessary to protect and preserve them.

The grass landscape is used in the sense of the concept of semi-open or open pasture landscapes, colloquially “wild pastures”.

This is based on a landscape management concept that aims to prevent changes in the quality of the habitat through large-scale, extensive grazing, while still leaving enough space for the natural dynamic processes of landscape change. The requirements of species, biotope and environmental protection are to be met while at the same time permitting extensive agricultural use and commercial marketing.

The aim is to create environmentally friendly, natural and cost-effective agricultural use and to preserve valuable habitats.

Galloway cattle, Heidschnucken and Highland cattle, so-called robust breeds, graze on the Höltigbaum all year round and without additional feeding. Grazing keeps the areas open, forest cover is prevented and biological diversity is preserved.
