The House of the Wilderness and part of the animal free area of the Falkenstein National Park Center can be discovered during the lynx trail.

In the Haus zur Wildnis you can explore interesting exhibitions all about the national park, experience a 3D cinema, and feel for once what life is like underground.

In keeping with the lynx trail, the path also leads past the large lynx enclosure. As in the other enclosures, it sometimes takes a little time and patience before the Luchs family shows up. You can then explore them in natural surroundings.

The HAUS ZUR WILDNIS forms the center of the Falkenstein National Park Center. Its unique architecture alone is fascinating, as it always grants a view of the 1315 meter high Great Falkenstein from inside. During the redesign of the permanent exhibition, exciting changing shows will be shown in the main hall. The cycle of becoming, growing and passing away is particularly impressively visible in the root duct. Visitors walk underground through the soil layers and discover the microorganisms that live there. Our mascot, the Schratzl, accompanies children to fun adventure and play stations.

In addition to lynxes and wolves, two former inhabitants of the Bavarian Forest can also be observed in the outdoor animal area of the Falkenstein National Park Center: wild horses and ancient cattle. While wild horses populated the post-glacial steppe landscape, ancient cattle lived in Bavaria's forests until the early Middle Ages. This unusual-looking duo thematically connects the natural enclosure in the animal outdoor area with the Stone Age cave.
