Far from any turbulence, surrounded by its pastures, the Manoir de l'Hermerel, an authentic fortified farm, invites you to discover its charming guest rooms.
It is said that it was a Saxon who founded in the 5th century, in this place, the first castle of the village. The location was ideal: proximity to the sea and a large natural port that is now full, a very fertile territory for developing agriculture. The 100 years war, which set Normandy on fire and bloodshed, did not spare Hermerel which was destroyed in July 1346. A building was rebuilt at the end of the hostilities, in the second half of the 15th century. From this period only the small Gothic chapel and probably the wing of the manor remain. The main part, for its part, dates from the end of the 17th century (1676). In the center of this set sits a majestic dovecote, seigniorial privilege before the French Revolution, a sign of nobility and wealth, it bears witness to the past grandeur of this former seigniory.
Three centuries later, François, then a very young 24-year-old farmer, acquired this estate. It then took us 20 years to try to restore the Hermerel to its former glory. We were able to lead this adventure thanks to our hosts who came from all over the world to share with us the calm and the magic of this little piece of Normandy.
A short walk will take you to the heart of the Baie des Veys and the light changing with the rhythm of the tides gives this place a constantly renewed atmosphere.
