Located in the woods of the Julienne, the Wixhou mushroom was erected around 1850 by Count FR-J de Mercy-Argenteau near the chapel and Château d'Argenteau. A small building with a recreational and ornamental vocation, it is a rare element of our heritage which offers walkers a place of rest or even a belvedere. The ornate cast iron barrel was produced by the Réquilé foundries in Liège. The zinc roof presents interesting frescoes under the roofs. In 2017, this factory underwent a major restoration.

This special piece of heritage in Wixhou, called the mushroom by locals and the umbrella by visitors, is an ornamental element that is quite rare in parks and gardens.

They were built in the 19th century for walks in the woods around castles or in parks. It was Count Mercy-Argenteau (then owner of the castle) who had it built around 1850. The cast iron shaft was made by the Requilé ornamental foundry in Liège. The zinc roof has discreet curls under the roof. This little treasure was restored in 2018 at the initiative of the non-profit organization Les Rendez-Vous de Richelle.
