At 2,296 meters, the neo-Gothic pilgrimage church stands out in bright white with a rust-red roof amidst the deep green meadows and gray mountains. With this height, she may proudly call "the highest place of pilgrimage in Europe".

Their history goes far beyond the refuge. In the year 1700 stood as weather cross up there still the crucifix of the black Herrgotts, which was found the same year in the death cry of Latzfons. About forty years later, thanks to the donations of many pilgrims, it was possible to build a little chapel in the open air. About 100 years later the neo-gothic building, which still stands today in the mountains of the Ritzlar, became of this. Three small bells from the workshop of Grasmair in Brixen ring every Sunday for worship.

In addition, the bells welcome again and again Bittgänger, which come from the Saltnerhütte above the Klausnerhütte, on the Way of the Cross with fifteen stations to the Latzfonserkreuz- little church.
