    The Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Candelaria ("Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria"), also Basílica de la Virgen de Candelaria, is located in the municipality Candelaria about 20 kilometers south of Santa Cruz de Tenerife by the sea. The pilgrimage church was built for the miraculous image of the Virgin of Candelaria. In 2011, the church was awarded the title of Basilica Minor. The building is registered in the Registro de Bienes de Interés Cultural (List of Spanish Cultural Heritage) and the largest church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in the Canary Islands. The shrine is visited annually by 2.5 million pilgrims and tourists. WIKIPEDIA

      Very impressive and most important pilgrimage church in the entire Canary Islands. The Virgin of Candelaria (Spanish Virgen de Candelaria; Nuestra Señora de Candelaria) is the patron saint of the Canary Islands.
      Diagonally opposite the church, on the seafront of the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, there are nine larger than life statues of the most famous Guanche kings, who were called Menceys.

              Candelaria is flooded with tourists especially on weekends by buses. Most walk to the basilica and back. But you should take a break in one of the bars on the Plaza and watch the action. Coming from the Fuzo (called La Arena by locals), the Bar Plaza turns left. There you can sit right by the sea, if one of the Passat does not blow too hard. The bar on the right is very touristy, also priced. Next to it is Palmelita, a café chain in German hand with great cakes. Next to it is the Grill del Abuelo (Grandpa's Grill). Very good meat dishes, especially the Bichillo. Good value for money. Then an Italian with quite good pizzas. In addition, the CocoeLima, which opens at 18: 00h and is highly recommended. Weekly changing (small) menu with exceptional dishes, everything is cooked to order. Large selection of beers and wines, moderate prices. If you would like to eat fish and seafood outside of international tourism, we recommend the Cofradia de los pescadores (only for lunch) or 50 meters further on the beach the Olegario. Meeting point of the locals is the kiosk Maiki y Fran on the municipal parking lot directly on the sea with unbeatable low prices.

                Five years have passed since then. So here's an update: Bar Plaza has unfortunately gone downhill, but the prices have gone up enormously. As for the bar on the right: take a look at the reviews. There's nothing to add. Palmelita is still there, Grill de Abuelo has long been a pizzeria (La Barchetta), next to it is Amore Mio, which has become more of a museum. Interesting and very clean with very good food and slightly higher prices. Lima e Coco has been closed for a long time, the bar is now deserted. Bar Doña Pata has changed owners and has also gone downhill, but the prices have gone up considerably.
                At the northern entrance to the Fuzo on the right is Bar EsKina, also highly recommended. There is a high-quality restaurant above the beach in the harbor, also highly recommended. It's called Bollullo Oasis.
