Bieberstein Castle is a baroque castle that sits enthroned on the 505 meter high Kugelberg and was built between 1710 and 1740. Today the castle is used as a boarding school. From the bike path you have a very nice view of the castle.

Bieberstein Castle is a baroque castle in Langenbieber, a district of the municipality of Hofbieber in the East Hessian district of Fulda. It was built between 1710 and 1740 by the Bamberg master builder Johann Dientzenhofer and is about 2 km south of Hofbieber and about 16 km east of Fulda on the Kugelberg (505.1 m above sea level), a southern foothill of the Hessenliede (517 .7 m above sea level). To the south of the Kugelberg, the terrain slopes down into the Biebertal.
In 1904 Hermann Lietz bought the castle and converted it into a country educational home in line with his reform pedagogy. He managed to defend his project against hostilities, especially from the Catholic Church in Fulda. The Bieberstein Castle is still the location of the upper level of the Hermann-Lietz schools. 125 girls and boys are looked after by 25 teachers and 25 other professionals.

A castle was built in 1150 to protect against robber knights and was expanded and expanded 100 years later. From 1576 to 1602 the castle served as an exile for the prince abbot Balthasar von Dernbach, but was evacuated in 1602. Then the castle stood empty for almost 100 years and became increasingly dilapidated. Between 1710 and 1740 the castle was converted into a magnificent baroque palace.
After Hermann Lietz bought the castle in 1904 and turned it into a "country educational home", the private school of the Hermann Lietz Foundation is still in the castle today.
If you want to visit the castle premises, you can do this by prior notification to the school administration. The castle grounds can be visited at any time.

Bieberstein Castle is located on the Bobritzsch, a tributary of the Freiberger Mulde in the Reinsberg district of Bieberstein, in the Mittelsachsen district of Saxony. There are two buildings, the larger "New Castle" and the smaller "Old Castle" (former castle, built over with a "little castle").
