An interesting anecdote about the Memorial Column for the 1st and 2nd Battalion Carabiniers-Cyclists is that the Carabiniers-Cyclists were known as the "Black Devils" during the fighting in March 1918 1. They were given this nickname because of their courage and determination in battle. One of the most remarkable moments was when the 2nd Company of the 2nd Battalion managed to repel a German attack near Oud-Stuivekenskerke with their machine guns 1.

The monument itself contains a relief with a symbolic representation of this battle: a devil with a two-pronged weapon, riding a wheel and blowing a hunting horn, amidst the flames 2. This depicts the Carabiniers-Cyclists as brave fighters who defied their enemies.

Oud-Stuivekens z.nr. Memorial column for the 1st and 2nd battalion of carabiniers-cyclists, protected as a monument as part of the so-called "Onze-Lieve-Vrouwhoekje" (cf. Oud-Stuivekens, z.nr.). Blue limestone memorial pillar rejuvenating upwards with multiple articulated top on heavily profiled pedestal, set up within an enclosure of ditto posts and iron bars. On the pillar, inscription in black letters: "AUX MORTS DES 1ER ET 2E BONS DE CARABINIERS CYCLISTES" - "ON THE NOSED FIELDS OF THE 1ST AND 2ND BONS CARABINIERS CYCLISTES". On the pedestal at the front: bas-relief with the symbolic representation of the struggle of the Caribinians cyclists and the inscription "1914-1918". On the other sides: relief with leaf wreath and bow with the inscriptions "REIGERSVLIET YSER", "RAPENBRUG WIPPELGEM" and "HAELEN ANVERS". Signed and dated "ALBERT LEFORT, ARCHITECTE, 1926" and "CARRIERE WINCQZ, SOIGNIES".
