Last year 2016 from Malmö to Gothenburg drove, thus the Kattegatleden. Absolutely family-friendly (my 8-year-old daughter has mastered this too). Great landscapes, small nice villages, always in the atmosphere of the coast, very well developed. All in all, the way is worthwhile.
The infrastructure is just as good as Malmö is well accessible from Trelleborg and from Gothenburg you can take the night ferry back to Kiel.
