The Neuköllln-Mittenwalder Eisenbahn is a public railway with its own route network in the south of Berlin, which is connected to the DB network via the Hermannstrasse / Neukölln station.
The Neukölln-Mittenwalder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft was founded in 1899 as the Rixdorf-Mittenwalder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft. When it opened on September 28, 1900, it was a heavily used connection between the Hermannstrasse ring station in today's Berlin Neukölln district and the southern outskirts of Berlin. It served both freight and passenger transport.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the industrial area that was created on the Teltow Canal in the Tempelhof and Neukölln areas was developed by railroad technology via various sidings of the Neukölln-Mittenwald railway.
After the Second World War, the routes outside of Berlin were expropriated and later dismantled, passenger traffic on the remaining route was discontinued in 1955, so that the Neukölln-Mittenwald railway now has only one significance for rail freight traffic in Berlin Neukölln.
The Neukölln-Mittenwald railway primarily transports mineral oil products for tank farms on the Teltow Canal as well as building materials. The Neukölln-Mittenwald railway has three of its own diesel locomotives to handle the traffic.
