A very nicely laid out maze in the outlines of the primeval horse found here at the open pit of today's lake.
The fossil "primeval horse" GMH Propalaeotherium isselanum, which brought worldwide fame to the Geiseltal, was found in 1933 during coal mining in the Geiseltal (Cecilie pit).
The Geiseltal is the only lignite deposit in central Germany from which a large number of larger fossil finds, i. H. plant and animal remains of the Tertiary (Eocene) from around 44 to 50 million years ago have been handed down.
A nice idea to pay tribute to the primal horse in this way.
