Friederike Freifrau von Elverfeldt had this grave chapel built in the neo-Gothic style in the immediate vicinity of Haus Martfeld in the 19th century. The master builder was the famous Cologne architect Vincenz Statz. Today the Martfeld Chapel, which is owned by the Schwelm Beautification Association, houses the famous Zimmermann rock collection with its fossils from Schwelm limestone. The painting Lot's Escape from Sodom by the baroque painter Johann Heinrich Damelet also hangs here. The chapel is the meeting place for the Environmental Protection Working Group, among others.
