Just 7 km away, on a hillock covered with gorse, is Denzano. In ancient times it was the seat of a castle of which, unfortunately, only a square tower remains which dates back to the year 1000. The tower is about 15 meters high and is built with mixed material from local resources, rich in clay deposits. The territory, in fact, can reserve surprises for mineralogy enthusiasts: on the two sides of the hill there are also gypsum crystals with an almost perfect conformation.

Just 7 km away, on a hillock covered with broom, is Denzano. In ancient times it was the seat of a castle of which, unfortunately, only a square tower remains which dates back to the year 1000. The tower is about 15 meters high and is built with mixed material from local resources, rich in clay deposits. The territory, in fact, can reserve surprises for mineralogy enthusiasts: on the two sides of the hill there are also gypsum crystals with an almost perfect conformation.

Inside the castle there was a parish church dedicated to the Assumption since the Middle Ages. Of the original building, only the apse remains, dating back to the 12th century and built in the image of the famous prototype of the Modena Cathedral: a precious testimony of Romanesque in the Apennines. It is even thought that a pupil of the Lanfranco school, architect of the Modenese cathedral, worked at the site.

The interior of the church was rebuilt in the early 1600s. Here there are still a valuable baptismal font in sandstone dating back to the 1500s, a precious organ from the 1700s and the scagliola frontals of the altars.
Near the church is the Locanda di Denzano, a family restaurant where they serve excellent food; in summer it is worth a visit to enjoy the coolness and the beautiful view of the plain below.
