What is a Melkhus?
The Melkhüs have their origins in the extreme west of East Friesland, the Rheiderland. It was there that countrywoman Friedel Schuhmacher had the idea in 2001 and designed the first Melkhus together with her daughter. Due to the increasing popularity with tourists but also with the local population, the rural women created more and more Melkhüs all over East Friesland, the Wesermarsch, the Wildeshauser Geest, the Emsland, Cuxhaven, up to Rotenburg/Wümme and of course also in the Ammerland. In total there are already 57 of them.
