    historical overview

    The BN looks after the Kammerweiher at Auerbach since 1980. They are located in the nature reserve "Pegnitzaue between Ranna and Michelfeld."

    Importance of the chamber pond for the protection of species

    Wildlife surveys carried out by the Federal Nature Conservation Agency in 2002 identified more than 60 different bird species, including 16 endangered Red List species alone. Many birds use the large bodies of water as a resting place and feeding ground on the passage. In late summer, we lower the ponds to provide mudflats for the waders (Limikolen).
    Of the seven amphibian species found here, the extremely rare species of frog deserve special mention. In the shallow water areas of the Kammerweiher, as well as the Erlenbruchgebiete the Pegnitzaue find frogs, newts, toads and toads good development opportunities.
    The grass snake lives here as well as many dragonflies (25 species were found) that are on the Red List.
