The Court Theater, once founded by Goethe, now offers a repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary works in the fields of opera, drama, and concerts.

With around 600 performances a year, the German National Theater, as Thuringia's most renowned theater, enriches the Weimar event calendar.

Invitations to major theater festivals, nominations and awards, important premieres, outstanding major projects such as the production of the complete "Ring of the Nibelung," and national and international co-productions testify to the theater's growing artistic standing.

The Weimar Art Festival, founded in 1990 as one of the first German-German cultural initiatives, is now Thuringia's largest and most well-known festival for contemporary arts.

As a highlight of the Weimar summer, international artists are invited to Weimar for three weeks from mid-August to early September.

If you stay in Weimar, preferably more than a day, you should really consider visiting the DNT.

The theater looks great both from the outside and inside. The pieces played / the program can be found on the usual websites. The stage can be rotated, which means that a quick change of stage / props makes the experience more entertaining.

In February 1919, the National Assembly, consisting of 423 members, met here to draft the Weimar Constitution. This was passed in July 1919. On August 21, 1919, Friedrich Ebert, the first Reich President, took his oath of office on the constitution in the German National Theater.
