The Könneritzbrücke was built in 1869 as a wooden bridge for the connection to the industrially up-and-coming Plagwitz. For this purpose, the material of the wooden bridge, built in 1858, was used instead of the present Plagwitzer bridge. In 1899, the wooden bridge, which in the meantime no longer complied with the requirements, was replaced by what was then a state-of-the-art iron construction in its present form. The Könneritz bridge is today under protection as a technical monument and, with its eye-catching truss girder and arch structure made of riveted iron girders, forms an exceptionally striking image.

History

The Könneritz Bridge was built in 1870 as a wooden bridge to connect to the industrially booming town of Plagwitz. The material from the wooden bridge built in 1858 was used to replace the current Plagwitz Bridge. In 1899, the wooden bridge, which no longer met the requirements, was replaced by an iron structure in its current form, which was extremely modern at the time. The Könneritz Bridge is now protected as a technical monument and, with its striking truss and arch construction made of riveted iron girders, forms an exceptionally striking image.

The steel truss bridge was extensively renovated from May 2002 to November 13, 2002 by Mitteldeutsche Bergbau Service GmbH, with the entire structure being lifted out with a special crane, reworked elsewhere and then reinstalled over the White Elster by crane. A new orthotropic plate was installed in the bridge as a roadway slab.
