The Alster meadow Schwanenwik is very popular with the hamburgers for barbecues and sunbathing. It is part of the Alsterpark, the green areas around the Outer Alster, which was released in 1952 as a park and recreational area for the population and remodeled. Before, the areas were usually privately owned.

By far the most famous and popular barbecue area in the Hanseatic city is - how could it be otherwise - on the beautiful Outer Alster. As soon as the first rays of sunshine break through the typical Hamburg gray cloudy sky, the first barbecue fans make a pilgrimage to the green area at Schwanenwik. Some people just stop by to end the evening relaxing in the countryside with a few steaks or bratwursts. Others travel with heavy luggage and bring everything they need for a cozy barbecue evening with their loved ones - all kinds of delicacies, blankets, lights and maybe even music. And so it can get crowded in the small area at Schwanenwik, but the atmosphere is always sociable and relaxed.
