Old Railway Tunnel "Großes Schlitzohr" near Daun
At the end of the first decade of the 20th century, the railway tunnel was driven 560 meters through the mountain. 80 years later, it was converted into a cycle path. The tunnel contains several niches with rounded arches, through which the water seeping in above is drained. The sound of this water has been a part of this place for almost 100 years.

Cool – here you ride your bike through a nearly 600-meter-long tunnel. And the best part is: The tunnel is only for cyclists and pedestrians – and bats, the "big rascals," but they usually don't cross your path. The tunnel is lit, but it's still a special experience to ride through it without daylight. Incidentally, this is the second-longest bicycle tunnel in Germany.

Unfortunately, this is not a tip, but a note to everyone who uses the tunnel and does not take their rubbish home with them.
Unfortunately, this morning I saw again that some people simply dispose of their rubbish, including mouth and nose masks, in the tunnel. Firstly, I find that disgusting and secondly disrespectful to the nature of our beautiful Volcanic Eifel.
But disposing of rubbish in nature is apparently still in fashion... :(
