Because exactly where the church of the Carmel monastery stands today, Crown Prince Rudolf and Mary Vetsera died on January 30, 1889. The act, which was initially veiled by the authorities, is the tragedy of a failed crown prince and thus becomes a very special myth that leads thousands of visitors to Mayerling every year.
