The hermitage of Gamogna was founded in 1053 by San Pier Damiani, a doctor of the Church and a hermit monk. He used to come there during Lent to pray and do penance. For several centuries it maintained a monastic presence, then it became a parish until the fifties when it was abandoned. Priests and lay people wanted to restore it in the 1980s to prevent its total collapse and make it habitable and welcoming again.
It is a real desert rich in history and spirituality in the hills between Tuscany and Emilia Romagna. It is a destination for pilgrims and hikers, much loved by the inhabitants of the diocese and by many people.
It was entrusted to the monastic fraternities of Jerusalem by the bishop of the diocese of Faenza-Modigliana in 1998 to ensure you a presence of prayer and welcome in the simplicity of the hermitage.

Path to get there challenging but not difficult .. It is advisable to do it not in the months of summer because the paths are very open and not very shaded and few if not in the water sources there is one near the hermitage

The Hermitage of San Barnaba in Gamogna was founded in 1053 by San Pier Damiani (probably a sanctuary dedicated to the saint already existed in the place here). It was then renovated in the 90s by Don Antonio Samorì and several volunteers, when it was now falling into disrepair
