The Alt-Rahlstedt Church in the Wandsbek district is characterized by a lively congregational life. Wedding couples also regularly choose the church to tie the knot. Therefore, it was important not only from a historical preservation perspective, but also for the community, that extensive restoration work was carried out in 2008. The sacred building, which was built on the site of a baptistery, was first mentioned in 1248. It is a single-nave granite fieldstone structure.

The irregular and heavily patched masonry of the nave is one of the indications that the building has existed for many centuries. The square church tower rises on the west side of the church. Part of it was built around 1780 in half-timbering, the rest in brickwork.

The medieval granite building contains valuable furnishings from the Middle Ages to modern times: for example, a wooden crucifix from the second half of the 15th century, a simple three-part altarpiece from 1695 with paintings, and a brass chandelier from 1744. The wooden pulpit with carved figures of the Evangelists, which was created around 1720, comes – like the crucifix – from the first Wandsbek church. Other furnishings include a window with Gothic brick molding near the pulpit, wooden figures of Peter and James from the mid-15th century, and a bronze bell from 1494.

Due to the long history of the Alt-Rahlstedt church, structural changes were inevitable. For example, in the 18th century,
the priest's gate on the south side was enlarged, adding a vestibule. Alterations to the windows followed around 1870. The German Foundation for Monument Protection supported measures to preserve the church tower.

The Alt-Rahlstedter Church, which belongs to the north church, is one of the oldest church buildings in northern Germany with works of art that are well worth seeing. Today it belongs to Hamburg's Wandsbek district and is located in the Rahlstedt district between Pfarrstrasse and the Wandse River. Up until the Greater Hamburg Law, the place Rahlstedt and thus also the church belonged to Stormarn, therefore the church is often counted to Stormarn in older literature. Connections to the Hamburg area have been preserved to this day. B. the church of Braak a daughter church of the church Alt-Rahlstedt.
