The Charlotte Mill is the architectural symbol of the Geltinger Birk and welcomes you
at the entrance to the nature reserve from the Geltinger Noor. This earth-drill mill, built to drain the Noor and grind grain, was erected in 1826 by Captain von Hobe of the Gelting estate.
Its purpose, along with another mill, was to pump groundwater from the fields behind it into the Baltic Sea. The mill was named after Chief Equerry Charlotte von Plessen, a Duchess of Mecklenburg by birth, who died at Gelting Castle in 1822. Today, the mill is
privately owned and has been converted into a comfortable holiday home.

The mill is really very impressive and is in great condition. I found the holder for the dog manure scoops about 50 meters beforehand interesting. I've never seen anything like it before, I think the idea alone is brilliant.
