The Meilsdorf windmill stands – protected from view – on a plot of land surrounded by trees. The days when a miller had to rely on wind to grind grain are long gone. The windmill has become a residential building.
Until 1854, the Meilsdorf mill was a stately forced mill. The farmers from the surrounding villages had to have their grain milled here and pay milling fees to the miller. The miller in turn paid a milling lease to the owner of the mill. At that time, the mill belonged to the Ahrensburg estate, owned by Ernst Heinrich Graf von Schimmelmann.
Martin Strycker not only ran the mill, but also a hawker's shop with an attached inn. Millers were often also innkeepers. This is because the farmers had to wait while their grain was milled. In the meantime, they refreshed themselves in the miller's inn.
In 1930, Martin Strycker acquired and modernized the mill. A diesel engine replaced the wind. The mill wings and the cap with the compass rose were dismantled. All that remained was the mill stump with a flat roof. In 1945, the mill was connected to the electricity grid. The two grinding gears, a grist gear and a flour gear, were now powered electrically.

Martin Strycker ran a contract grinding business and traded in animal feed in addition to flour production. Grain was ground into flour in Meilsdorf until 1969.

In 1970, the mill went to a new owner. He converted it into a house and put a cap with four wings back on the mill stump.
