At the foot of the Neukasteler Berg, just west of the village is the Kaltenbrunn spring. Here there should have been a source shrine already in pre-Christian times. [4] In the Middle Ages, there was a Marian pilgrimage, to the care and organization of 1662 a chaplain was hired. In 1973, the excavation of the foundations of the old pilgrimage church began. In the 1980s, the source gained national recognition and due to the onslaught of visitors followed by a closure. Meanwhile, the source is accessible again.

The Virgin Mary depicted and venerated here is that of Lourdes. This well-known Marian pilgrimage site is located in the French Pyrenees and is visited by a large number of people every year, including many sick people hoping for healing. The devotional image of the Mother of God has spread widely, not only in France, and believers have built Lourdes chapels and grottos everywhere.
The ecclesiastical memorial day "Our Lady of Lourdes" is on February 11th, this is the anniversary of the apparition of Mary (1858), when the Mother of God appeared to the 14-year-old Bernadette Soubirous in a rock grotto not far from Lourdes. Bernadette later became a nun and died at the age of only 35. On December 8 (the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary) 1933, she was canonized by Pope Pius XI.
The commemoration of the Lourdes Madonna is also World Day of the Sick.

The first part of the Catholic pilgrimage church was a stone chapel, which was probably built in 1275 near the source. Extensions then took place around 1350 and 1450-1477, in which a Gothic choir room and a tower were also added.

In 1575 the pilgrimage church was finally demolished to the ground as part of the compulsory introduction of the Evangelical Lutheran denomination in the Duchy of Zweibrücken in 1555 under the government of the Dukes Wolfgang and Johann von Zweibrücken. The foundation was uncovered again in 1973.

The Lourdes grotto with the statue of Mary and the statue of Bernadette was built in 1927-1928 by citizens of Ranschbach based on a sculptor from Bergzabern above the source in Kaltenbrunn and inaugurated on April 15, 1928.

Beautiful place to find peace. You go through chestnut woods for about 2 km then you reach the Lourdes grotto. You can drink the water, it is spring water.
