The thermometer is located in the aptly named Baker, California, about halfway between Los Angeles and Las Vegas in the Mojave Desert. The temperature gauge is 134 feet tall and commemorates the world record of 134 degrees Fahrenheit set on July 10, 1913 in nearby Death Valley - an extreme temperature that is still considered the highest temperature ever observed on Earth.
