The Sankenbach waterfall, which plunges 40 meters through a Karwand step and is triggered by manually opening the wooden sluice, offers an impressive natural spectacle. Here visitors can intervene in nature themselves and let the waterfall swell. You open the slide with the wooden lever. The dammed water of the water basin then rushes into the valley.

The Sankenbach waterfalls are located southwest of Baiersbronn in the Black Forest. The Sankenbach crashes in several stages more than 40 m over the Karwand of the Sankenbachkessel. The main case is formed by the Eck'schen horizon of the Lower Buntsandstein. Below the waterfall lies on the bottom of the Kars of the once almost silted, but restored by damming Sankenbachsee.

Due to the 0.65 square kilometer catchment area, the average annual flow rate is less than 3 l / s. From a footbridge above the main level, however, the inflowing water in the small sink above the first drop level above can first be dammed by means of a wooden slider; after opening the slide, the accumulated water then falls down for a while in an increased surge. Below the main case, there are two lower case levels.

The Sankenbacher waterfalls and their surroundings are designated as a 4.8-acre areal natural monument.

Dreamlike waterfall! Beautiful, challenging climb to the waterfall. Once at the top, a flap offers the possibility to regulate the amount of water. Not only for children an exciting matter. We were there with three kids (4,5,7) who really enjoyed the climb and the sight.

Today (19.05.2018) only accessible to the covered bench. View of the waterfall possible, but it only went further if you "disregarded" signs. The reason were a few small rivulets on the path and mud. But since there were a lot of slipper hikers playing around.

Hello everyone, the way past the waterfall is currently closed. If you plan the tour to Baiersbronn, from Kniebs and want to take the train from Baiersbronn to Freudenstadt, you should plan around 40 minutes more hiking time through the diversion.
Despite everything, the hike from Kniebis to Baiersbronn is highly recommended.
