Very nice old town located above the Rur.

Two city gates with the city wall have been preserved.

In the city center there is a very nice market square with a few restaurants

On the northern edge of the Eifel - high above the red sandstone cliffs that can be seen from far away - lies the former ducal town of Nideggen. From the 12th century, Nideggen and its castle were the residence of the Counts of Jülich. Nideggen offers visitors an interesting piece of history and is at the same time a modern place to live and live. The attractiveness is characterized by the lovingly maintained, historic town center and Nideggen Castle. Two well-preserved city gates with the city wall made of red sandstone dominate the silhouette and allow the visitor to feel the touch of the past. One of the wildly romantic alleys leads from the market square directly up to the mighty castle complex with its keep, where the Rhineland Castle Museum is located. Anyone who is not afraid of climbing to the castle will be rewarded with an impressive view of the Rur valley. The city looks back on a 700-year-old, eventful past and still impresses today with its medieval character.
