The small town of Scenic on the edge of the Black Hills is quite something: unlike most ghost towns, Scenic is not a relic of the gold rush era. Rather, it originated as a small community of special characters, but they moved away over time. Since 2011, Scenic has been privately owned and partially inhabited. A side trip is still worthwhile, because some old buildings such as the Longhorn Saloon and the post office are still standing today and exude the typical Wild West charm.
