    "Above the Ruhr sluice of Essen-Horst lies the Villa Vogelsang, which was erected around 1840 for Friedrich Ludwig Niemann (1806-1889), who rose from the tenant of the neighboring Horst to the financier of Alfred Krupp In 1870, the authorized officer Heinrich The villa was named after the third owner, the entrepreneur Wilhelm Vogelsang (1877-1939), who acquired the estate together with the neighboring Horster mill and a large forest estate in 1910. On the Ruhr side are several stucco-decorated representative rooms. The elaborate and elegant interior design of the house was restored in the second half of the 1990s.
    In 1947, the Vogelsang family sold the house to the German Red Cross, which ran a maternity home in the building. From 1962 to 1994 it belonged as a monastery to the diocese of Essen.       The construction was commissioned by Friedrich Ludwig Niemann, an Essen industrialist. In 1840 he bought the nearby Horst mill and had the property built as his new home.
      Traditions claim that his family found a treasure in the former knight's castle Haus Horst. Where the family's wealth really came from remains a mystery. What is certain, however, is that Friedrich Ludwig Niemann helped another industrialist: Alfred Krupp received a loan from Niemann in 1856.
