The Bochum Railway Museum is one of the very few museums dedicated to the subject of railways and their history. In addition to its exhibitions, it also offers train services, at least on certain days. Initially an insider tip for railway specialists, the general public is now also interested in railway technology and history.

Germany's largest private railway museum is located on the site of the former Bochum-Dahlhausen railway depot. More than 120 rail vehicles from 1853 to the present day are on display there. Some of the historic treasures are even still operational. The focal point of the listed complex is the 20-meter turntable with roundhouse. The water tower, water crane, and coaling station are preserved in working order. This allows visitors to step back in time and admire the large locomotives. A tour of the exhibition provides an overview of the development of the railway and a wealth of interesting information about the workings of these steam giants. Special events, cab rides, and special and shuttle tours round out the offerings and ensure a varied experience.
