The Klausen is a wonderful pass, from the Altdorf side first in the valley floor, from Unterschächen then high up in the valley flank and with a partly spectacular deep view into the valley, the route climbs with a moderate gradient and well developed up to the top of the pass. The Glarus side is also exceptionally beautiful in terms of landscape, also well developed and at the end offers a few paved serpentines.
The only downer - the Klausen is also very popular with motorcyclists and is mistaken for a racetrack by some. However, this can be avoided if you are out and about before 10 a.m. - which is generally beneficial for the nature and alpine experience.
