780 hm in about 10 km, not that steep overall, but there are a few places with up to 15%, starting from Kranjska Gora is definitely the better choice, as there are cobblestones in some bends, which should not be underestimated when going downhill. Towards Bovec it's all "normal asphalt"

So, unfortunately, I can't confirm Gerhard Hayek's comment about traffic. I went over it on the Monday after the Whitsun holidays and was practically suffocated by motorcycles and other motorized vehicles. But... you get used to it. The pass is fantastic. And if you have the time, take the short path up to the hut at the pass and inhale the truffle pasta there for 10 euros. Amazing ;-) I had to have the mushroom soup for dessert, though. It was a long, hard, but beautiful day.
