As a strangler from Lichtenmoor an initially unknown predator is referred to, which is said to have torn in 1948 in Niedersachsen numerous domestic and wild animals around the Lichtenmoor northeast of Nienburg / Weser. The search for the strangler and speculation about which animal it could be, were accompanied by a rapidly growing, in the meantime Germany-wide media interest and led to large-scale, but unsuccessful hunts. A wolf shot dead in August 1948 by a hunter revived the story, which at the time was hardly noticed. [1]

The wolf stone is reminiscent of a wolf that was killed here. Allegedly, he was responsible for many animals being torn. A memorial stone and a plaque give further details on site.
