Poised and elegant, Fan Brycheiniog is the climax of a striking escarpment edge in the Black Mountain range of the western Brecon Beacons. From sculpted valleys to pretty tarns, the gently-curved, grassy escarpment – the Carmarthen Fan – provides lovely ridge walking. Nearby Llyn y Fan Fach is famed for the Lady of the Lake legend.

Fan Brycheiniog is the highest peak at in the Black Mountain region of the Brecon Beacons. At 2,633 feet (802.5 m) the summit boasts incredible views of the rugged landscape; sculpted by glacial force with steep escarpments. On a clear day you can see to the Bristol Channel.

The views down onto Llyn Y Fawr from here is pretty spectacular. This is one of the nicest places in the Brecon Beacons to walk along. Once you have put in the effort to get here, the ridge has a good footpath, there's a nice walled shelter and the views down towards the lake is pretty awesome on a good day.

Fan Brycheiniog is the highest summit of the Black Mountain and is a superb viewpoint. Been coming up here for years from a variety of directions, mainly with work. My favourite route is from Llyn Y Fan Fach, it's one of the finest ridge walks in Wales. Winter or summer, this is great place.

Llyn y Fan Fawr is a natural lake in the county of Powys, Wales. It lies at the foot of Fan Brycheiniog, the highest peak of the Black Mountain range within the Brecon Beacons National Park. Created as a result of glacial action, it is one of the largest glacial lakes in southern Wales. The lake is roughly rectangular in shape with its long axis oriented roughly north–south.

Highest peak in the Black Mountains, and can be a tiring and challenging climb depending on which trail you take - if you come in from Picws Du, not much of an issue. If you come in from the North, the trails up can be quite technically challenging and slippery, so keep that in mind if it is wet.

Stone wind break shelter with stone seats at the top by Trig Point. Which is great as it can get really windy. Great spot for a bite to eat, get out the elements and change clothes if need be 👍🏻

Hight elevation trail, it can turn from warm to cold weather once at the top, windbreaker & waterproofs in your pack is a must just in case, also good footwear is highly recommended.
