The solar bunker in Gelsenkirchen
With its stately dimensions of 240 m in length, 30 m in width and 12 m in height, it lays an unmistakable sign for the former industrial history of the Ruhrgebiet. He can not be easily dismantled due to his concrete masses and has thus been preserved. In April 2008, a grid-connected photovoltaic system with 1,621 solar modules went into operation on the approximately 5,800 m² roof of the bunker, feeding an annual energy yield of approx. 320,000 kWh into the medium-voltage grid. This corresponds to an annual CO2 saving of 190 tons.

The former coal bunker is an impressive "concrete monster" with a length of 240 meters.
The dismantling seemed too complex and therefore it is used today as a solar system.
The solar cells attached to the side are unfortunately used as targets for stone throwers and are therefore in a desolate condition.
