The Sankt-Petri-Kirche in Münster was consecrated to Saint Peter (Peter). Simon, nicknamed Petrus (rock), was a fisherman on Lake Genesareth when he - together with his brother Andreas - was called by Jesus Christ to be a "fisherman of men". According to the Catholic understanding, he is the highest apostle, and the two millennia long line of popes - currently Francis - are in his successor. On statues and paintings, Peter is almost always shown with two keys in hand. This attribute refers to the Bible verse in Matthew: “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; what you will bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and what you will loosen on earth will be loosened in heaven ”(Chapter 16, verse 19).
Together with Paul, Peter is also known as the "princes of the apostles"; their common feast day in the saints calendar is on June 29th.

St. Petri, also Petrikirche, is a Catholic church in Münster.
As a former Jesuit church, the Petrikirche is the nucleus of the University of Münster.
It is not far from the cathedral on the university grounds between the Fürstenberghaus, the legal and Catholic theological faculties on the Aa and today serves as the church of the Catholic Student and University Community of Münster (KSHG) and the school church of the Paulinum grammar school. Because of the good acoustics, the church is the preferred space for sacred concerts; In addition, the Petrikirche is highly valued as a wedding church.

Today, the Petrikirche serves as a church for the Catholic university community and the Paulinum grammar school. It is located on campus between the Fürstenberghaus, the law and the Catholic-theological faculty, not far from the cathedral directly on the Aa. The Petrikirche is also very popular as a concert and wedding church.
During the semester, a Taizé prayer takes place here every Wednesday at 7 p.m.
